Tutorial: The Basics of a Monitoring Mission
The Horizon 2020 Future and Emerging Technologies project subCULTron was conceptualised as a novel technological answer to the logistical challenges in long-term environmental monitoring of the waters of the Venice Lagoon. The developed autonomous heterogeneous swarm of marine robots creates a topologically reconfigurable underwater acoustic sensor network with surface access points. The subCULTron underwater swarm can also be seen as a part of the Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT), which is roughly defined as a network of smart interconnected underwater objects. During this tutorial, we will give a brief introduction to and demonstrate the use of aPad and aMussel robots, including accessing basic interfaces, communication, API examples, and programming, execution, and monitoring of an example mission.
