The first preliminary notifications of the 2. International Interdisciplinary Field Training in Marine Robotics and Applications "Breaking the Surface 2010" have been sent to over 50 addresses of potential participants and collaborators in the programme, on January 21, 2010.

The format of the field training's technical programme i.e. the structure of the schedule has been established by the Programme Committee. It is displayed below. The Programme Committee is proceeding with the work in ensuring quality talks, presentations and plenaries in the reserved time-slots as well as establishing the details of the field-work with the Organization Committee that is striving to ensure all necessary infrastructure.

There will be a total of 16 hours of lectures, all given in a 1-hour plenary lecture format with 50 minutes of exposition and ca. 10 minutes for questions and discussion. This constitutes a total fund of 4 1-hour plenaries per module: marine robotics (MAROB), marine biology (MARBIO), maritime archaeology (MARCH) and maritime security (MARSEC).

There will be a total of 1 field-work day (ca. 7 hours of actual committed time out in the water) for the trans-disciplinary programme modules of marine biology (MARBIO) and maritime archaeology (MARCH) and 5.5 hours of committed time out in the water for the trans-disciplinary programme module of maritime security (MARSEC).
