PhD Presentation: Sonar-Based Object Detection Methods
In the context of an autonomous underwater vehicle working in cooperation with humans, finding a robust and reliable sonar image processing method for detection and tracking is not only a practical challenge, it is a paramount safety feature. This lecture is going to give an overview of the current imaging sonar technologies as well as methods for object detection, giving an emphasis on methods that have the potential for being used for detecting a specific object like a human diver and determine their applicability in real-time operation.
