Hear my ship. Discover the underwater radiated noise of various vessels: a new dataset and conclusions from the Adriatic
Aquatic animals that rely on sound to communicate, find food and protect themselves are known to be sensitive and vulnerable to underwater radiated noise (URN) pollution. In this presentation, we will discuss the dire implications the increase in shipping activities is posing on the health of marine bio-fauna. We will present the current regulatory measures proposed to mitigate noise pollution at global, regional and local levels. We will also present our unique, open-access dataset for URN from small ships and the surprising observation that noise from small ships is comparable to that from large ships.
