Biography

António Pascoal has a PhD in Control Science from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA, 1987. He is Professor of Control and Robotics at IST, University of Lisbon, Portugal, member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR), founder of the Dynamical Systems and Ocean Robotics Lab (DSORLab) of ISR, and coordinator of the Thematic Area “Technologies for Ocean Exploration and Exploitation” of the Associate Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems (LARSyS). He has coordinated and participated in a number of international projects that have led to the design, development, and field-testing of single and multiple autonomous marine and air vehicles and systems. Over the past 10 years, he has been IST’s responsible scientist for 10 EU funded collaborative research projects and several national research projects. He has published 1 book, a total of 92 book chapters and peer reviewed journal papers, and 256 conference papers. He holds two patents on marine technology.
