Biography
Shyam Madhusudhana is a project Group Leader at the Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies (LABUST) within the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. His primary research focuses on the development of high-throughput frameworks designed to process massive acoustic archives and extract ecological insights. Shyam is the creator and lead developer of Koogu, an open-source machine learning toolkit used for implementing custom bioacoustic solutions. His research in animal bioacoustics has covered a diverse range of taxa across both terrestrial and marine environments. Prior to his current role in Croatia, he held research positions at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics (USA), the Centre of Ocean and Earth Science & Technology in Mauritius, and the Centre for Marine Science & Technology at Curtin University (Australia). An IEEE-OES Distinguished Lecturer, he frequently contributes to technical workshops and seminars on related topics.
