Paolo Casari

Paolo Casari is an Associate Professor at the University of Trento, Italy, where he co-leads the MANTA research laboratory. He has co-authored about 200 publications among journals and conferences. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He received his Ph.D. in Information Engineering from the University of Padova in 2008. His research spans underwater acoustic and optical communications and networks, 5G/6G and millimeter-wave systems, localization and sensing, vehicular communications, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, and machine learning for communication systems. From 2008 to 2014, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Padova. From 2015 to 2019, he was a Research Assistant Professor at the IMDEA Networks Institute in Madrid, where he led the Ubiquitous Wireless Networking group. He has contributed to several international research projects, including EU FP7 CLAM, EDA RACUN, H2020 RECAP and SYMBIOSIS, the NATO SPS ThreatDetect, SafeUComm and SHIELD projects, as well as multiple Marie-Curie Doctoral Networks, serving in scientific management and principal investigator roles. He contributed to the first stages of JANUS, the NATO standard for underwater acoustic communications. Paolo Casari regularly serves on the organizing and technical program committees of international conferences, has held editorial roles for leading IEEE journals and is not Associate Editor for the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.
