Ivan Lončar

Ivan Lončar was born in Split, Croatia. He graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb in 2016. He defended his PhD at the same faculty in 2025. During his time in the lab, he took part in numerous research projects, including H2020 subCULTron and EXCELLABUST, HrZZ project CroMarX, ONR NICOP Adriatic, Interreg Italy-Croatia InnovaMare. As team leader in the IRI2 BROD project, he led the development of the open-source marine simulator MARUS. He contributed to winning the MBZIRC Maritime Grand Challenge 2023 by developing a long-range localization system for environments without GNSS. Ivan worked as a researcher at the Center for Robotics & Intelligent Systems, University of Limerick on the SEMPRE project to develop a digital twin for offshore wind farm deployment. More recently Ivan has been working on the Schmidt Marine Fisheries Initiative 2022 – SOUND, the Era Chair UWIN-LABUST and NATO SPS SHIELD projects.
