Oceanids: Development of Next Generation Marine Autonomous Systems for Ocean Science

The UK’s National Marine Equipment Pool (NMEP) is the largest centralised marine scientific equipment pool in Europe providing scientific instruments and equipment capable of sampling from the sea surface to the deep ocean. The Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) fleet of robotic platforms (AUVs, ROVs, USVs and Underwater gliders) forms a key component of the NMEP. To maintain the UK’s position at the forefront of global marine science and technology innovation, NERC/ISCF have made a £19m investment in developments of Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS) including platforms, sensors and supporting infrastructure. This presentation will describe progress to date on the: Autosub2000 Under Ice (Autosub2KUI), Autosub Long Range 1500 (ALR1500) and Command & Control (C2) developments being led by the MARS Development group.
